Function: Show. eh, I got nothin…

Published by at 11:17 pm under Thoughts and Banter

Yes, I do like to write about woodworking, and tools, both hand and power tools, but I have been busy building tools…

Evidently I am NOT comparatively busy as the folks who made the following video. Busy does not really adequately express these folks… I’m thinking over exuberant, with double down on imagination…

For those who dig… eh sorry, like hand tools, this will be over the top, but it will be over the top to everyone anyway. Just when you thought you’d seen most everything. Eight some odd minutes of stunning, well, shock… Eh, you’ll just keep watching to see what happens next. It sort of just sucks you in.

For those who prefer better content from me, Thanks, and I am working on some, but for now just laugh a little like I did, and know I’ll be along with better stuff soon!

Happy woodworking, or multi-tooling, even!

    Wow… I’m at a loss for words

    Hi Duane,

I was too, in fact I couldn’t stop laughing. It had been awhile since I had posted, and the rumors of my demise… well you know.

In reality, I’d like to caution tool buyers to avoid multi function tools. It is true that they may do several things, but they rarely do any of those things well.

If there were any multi tools out there, which I think do a number of things well, it would be a Low Angle Jack Plane, A Low Angle Block Plane, A Ryoba Saw, and a 3/8″ Chisel. If you have those, well, you have a lot of utility.

Beyond that, I’d have to add, that if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. Cheap tooling is usually never a good buy, unless you live to part with your money. And if you can’t sharpen it, it is useless anyway, no matter what it is.

    Bests,

    Rob

And this is one of the reasons China needs our steel and scraps?

The music, alone, puts me in a shopping frame of mind! You have to admit, if you brought out that shovel and sliced veggies for party guests, you’d be the talk of the town.

I hear you Tico… I thought I was watching Bonanza from the music… I was expecting Hoss to ride up on his horse, dismount and chop up some brush for a camp fire, dig the pit and julienne up some fries…

In reality this is a tool that does too many things… too many to do them really well, and that is true of many tools.

Rob – just found your website, and this was sitting at the top of it…

If anyone at Lie Nielsen sees this vid, I predict it won’t be long before an ‘heirloom’ quality shovel appears on the market, probably with bronze fittings….

It slices, it dices ! Amazing stuff

And how does one obtain this amazing tool, without having to enlist in the glorious People’s Army of the PRC? Seriously, the stirring martial music is so overblown, the whole vid is like a propaganda film.

    Simply amazing
