A quicker (but less beautiful) way to line the boxes is with duct tape. I've used these backpacking for batteries, and my wife keeps one in her purse for a collection of mints, clippers, throat lozenges, and band aids. They also make good crayon holders for small children.

My dad started me on using Altoid tins for small part storage, only back in the day the preferred item was the Sucrets throat lozenge tin. They're similar (maybe identical) in size and shape. He had a couple dozen that lived on edge in a workbench drawer, between a divider grid made of 1/8" Masonite (hardboard) strips. I don't think he lined them, though.

Rob,
What you can also use is the brush-on rubber coating, such as LOCTITE® Color Guard®. I have used it to dip or brush onto tool handles, or refurbish garage sale tools that I have found. They also make it in an aerosol spray can if you don't want to mess with brushing it on. The only downside is having to wait for it to dry, in a well ventilated area.
Regards,
Ted

Thanks for the comments Joey,

It's true. We need a number of different solutions for hardware storage, since things come in many sizes. The altoid tin does well in the the realm of things sized appropriately. Best of all, The price is good and you can scale them as you need. Just buy more!

The Altiods boxes are a great trick, looks like they are just the right size for a lot small stuff I always need to store. Thanks
