The woodworking process requires sharp tooling for our best work.
We have found that spending time on stones to get sharp is only part of the process.
What's needed is a clean and simple way to maintain that
sharpness at the bench while working wood.

Leather strops are not created equal.
Many strops are designed for honing carving tools,
and some are sold as loose pieces of leather.

Strops for carving tools often don't offer enough space
to properly strop a plane iron or chisel,
particularly when you use a honing guide.

A loose piece of leather isn't flat and is difficult
to fixture when two hands are on the blade.
Waves in the leather can also distort the stropping path,
changing the effective sharpening angle.
Since sharpening depends on consistancy as part of it's process,
How does a blade compensate for that? It can't.

Our 'Bench Strop' solves those issues.

We find that stropping works best on a
leather surface that is flat, and that will not move
under the bevel edge while the blade is being pulled.
This can mean all the difference between
sharpening and dubbing, and dubbing is dulling.

We also find that stropping is a clean sharpening method
that helps maintain sharpness while woodworking.
We find that the plane iron and chipbreaker often do not need
disassembled for strop honing, creating an ease of use,
and saving woodworking time in the process.

Keeping your woodwork clean is important,
and keeping tooling sharp is the most efficient way to work.

Our strop is a multi-piece, interchangable strop sharpening tool.
It is optimized for use with Plane Blades, Chisels, Gouges and Knives.
We offer leather stropping surface interchangibility in Very Firm,
Hard Rolled Genuine Horse Butt Leather,
Cowhide Split Suede Leather and Basic MDF for any sharpening need.

Whether you choose to strop with or without compounds,
we offer a flat stable sharpening tool, with options for the surface you prefer.

We also offer the strop tops, which is the interchangable part of this tool, in Glass and MDF.

An MDF Strop Top you say? Yup. Think Diamond Paste.

Simply pull your blade when honing or stropping, never push,
because pushing any edge tool during fine sharpening
even when working on the hardest stones, can dub the edge,
and will definately damage any leather strop.
This tip is a secret about sharpening, it's what gets the job done.

Our strops have a spacious 3 x 10-1/4 area for stropping.
Wide enough for nearly any woodworking blade.

The Strop Tops can be interchanged or replaced if they ever wear out.
It is easy to order extras and keep spares.
All it takes is a hex key to unscrew the flat head cap screws
that hold the strop tops to the base.
A hex key holder on the base keeps the key at the ready,
allowing the quick change of strop tops on the strop base, for versatility.

Multiple Strop Tops allow flexibity. Load them with the compound you prefer
for the tooling you like, or switch between smooth or rough surface strops.

Veritas Bench Dog Not Included.

The Strop Base is key to the stropping system. Not only allowing Strop Top interchangability,
it also lifts the Strop Top above the bench providing room for the hands
when stopping the backs of blades and handled tools.

It also has three, dog holes in the base to help fixture it on the workbench.
The dog holes can be ordered to fit 3/4-inch round dogs, or 3/4-inch square dogs.
Fixturing is as easy as slipping it over a single raised round bench dog.

Alternatively, we offer a set of four rubber non-skid feet that can be added,
for when a bench dog isn't handy.

Hock Iron and Veritas MkII Jig Not Included.

These interchangable leather strops are laminated to flat substrates
and mounted on the strop base with two 1/4-20 flat head cap screws.
Plenty of room for stropping even a #8 Plane Iron.

We also offer a Glass Strop Top. It uses the same interchangeable
flat MDF Base with 1/4 inch thick glass adhered to it.
It measures 3-1/16th by 10 inches,
for those who prefer fine honing on micro abrasives!

The Strop Bases are finished with Teak Oil,
and are available in four different woods, Ash (as shown)
Cherry, Hard Maple, and Walnut.
