The East West Bench Hook™
The Ergonomic Western or Japanese Style
Handsaw Bench Hook Solution.
Think outside the Miter Box.
It's a new approach to an old problem, fixturing work so it can be sawn.
With more flexibility than a miter box, This fixture
helps remove barriers to sawing, and opens up all the possibilities!
One of the biggest barriers to accurate sawing is poor body posture and ergonomics.
This Bench Hook focuses the sawyer on proper body position,
always sawing perpendicular to the bench, with no contortions or over-reaching
that introduces poor ergonomics and posture while cutting angles.
Position the work to facilitate the sawyer.
Develop your best stance, and focus on sawing
to the line with clear vision of the work at any angle.
The overall size of the Bench Hook is nominally 14-3/4 inches square.
The Replaceable Insert is 14-3/4 x 2-3/4 inches in size.
The Fence is 14-3/4 x 1-1/4 x 3/4 inches.
The Fence is set up with dual mounting points, which is handy for the
size of stock or how delicate the cut is that you need to make.
The fence is located in the middle of the fixture,
and can pivot 90 degrees above and below the center.
The idea is about keeping your body square to the Bench hook for your best cutting ergonomics.
This is why this fixture pivots the work instead of contorting the Sawyers body.
It bench Hook has a fixturing point at 90 degrees, and dual fixturing points
at 22.5 and 45 degrees both above and below the 90.
There is adjustment in the fence should one want to set the angle for high accuracy.
The pivot and fixture points are threaded inserts
set in counterbores and bedded in epoxy.
Simply tighten the thumbscrews in place with finger pressure.
The fence is capable of multi-position mounting. Some sawing situations require
the fence to be close to the saw kerf, where other times one will prefer it further away.
We provide the option for deciding when that works best for you.
An ogee detail rounds out the fence for a nice appearance.
The fixture has a replaceable sacrificial surface under the sawing area.
It mounts flush with the surface of the Bench Hook, and can be quickly replaced
by removing two 1/4-20 flat head cap screws using a 5/32 hex key.
It can be flipped end for end to equalize wear before replacing.
No matter how much this fixture gets used,
the replacable insert helps keep it in top condition.
There is a line drawn down the middle as an alignment target for sawing.
This really helps align the saw as long as the work's layout is aligned to this line.
Position the layout lines on the work over the line
on the fixture and you're on target.
Plenty of room to lean the saw to any angle, then focus on the sawing.
The working stock can be placed
in front of the fence for use with western style push saws,
or behind the fence for Japanese style pull saws.
The East West Bench Hook allows you to use any saw you have,
for any kind of cross cut or miter work you have.
Large or Small, Coarse or Fine.
Whether the work is 6 x 6 bench legs or fine moldings
made with hollows and rounds, this is the sawing fixture for it.
Compound cuts are no problem. Lay out the lines
as you normally would, and pivot the fence to match.
Then simply focus on sawing to the line with proper body stance and position.
Fixturing any angle that is not provided for with fixture points is not a problem!
Remove the fixturing thumbscrew and position the
fence as you require. Clamp it to the bench with an "F" Clamp.
The fence is long enough for a clamp to reach at nearly any angle.
Built to last with proper care.
Available in Right or Left-Hand Versions.
Two extra replaceable inserts are provided with the tool
as shown above, and Replaceable Insert 3-Packs are available separately.
